Cleveland Ward News E-mail Print
At the 21 July 2010 Cleveland Ward Forum, plenty of news emerged, which included:

1. 51, Drayton Green
Cleveland Councillors expressed sympathy with local residents' and local community groups' concerns over the proposed demolition of the Victorian building known for decades at St Helena's Home. The next move is for Councillor Grant to join WEN and Ealing Civic Society in requesting a meeting with the building owners Notting Hill Housing Trust. The Police who attended the meeting were concerned to hear that the building had been broken into and that NHHT had seemingly done nothing about it. The Police said that they would secure the building.

2. Junction of Argyle Road and Ruislip Road East
Later this year a 'hard featured ' roundabout will replace the traffic lights at this junction in order to improve traffic flows. Somewhat set back from the junction three Zebra Crossings will also be installed on Ruislip Road East and on the north running and south running portions of Argyle Road. Recent Public Consultation on this junction enjoyed a 12% response of whom 62% were in favour of installing a roundabout.

However there was some very vocal opposition to this project. One resident stated that the traffic flow problem actually emanated for the junction further north where the Argyle Road meets the A40. She predicted that the roundabout would do nothing to improve traffic flows. Another resident said that the new roundabout should be 'soft featured' ie vehicles could drive over it. This he  said was the reality of the roundabout which existed at the junction up until 1992 and without this traffic flow improvements would not be achieved.

3. Jacob's Ladder
Network Rail have finally been persuaded to allow the re-lighting of the footbridge. Now five new timer/photocell switching lights will replace the three current ones which are illuminated 24 hours. The re-lighting will cost £6,600.

4. Threat of Tesco 'Invasion' of Pitshanger Lane Recedes
The old Robert Dyas shop appears not about to become a Tesco. 'Explore Learning' is planning to open there offering 'top-up' tuition to school children. Bizarrely two new cheese shops are also likely to open soon on the Lane.
