A celebration of OPEN Ealing’s achievements and people – Saturday 29th September

This Saturday OPEN Ealing opens its doors to all to bid farewell to its current home. There will be free activities and events for all the family:

12-4pm : ‘Fantastic Worlds’ drawing workshop for all the family with artist Timothy B Layden and an animated film made during OPEN school holiday workshops.

2-4pm : Learn magic with Mr Cosmo and  open rehearsals of six 10-minute plays to be performed in the evening

7-11pm : A selection of live music from local classical and jazz musicians; films and documentaries; performance of the six 10-minute plays.

Join us in celebrating everything that OPEN has achieved over the past 18 months. An afternoon and evening of children and family activities and performances and a cocktail or two. A truly memorable day over five glorious floors.

West Ealing Family Day – music, food, kids’activities, craft market and more – Saturday from 10am

The weather forecast is good and there’ll be music, food and activities for kids’, so make the most of the good weather and enjoy the late summer at West Ealing Family Day on Saturday.

Some of the activities and events for Family Day:

Kids’ activities include – Punch and Judy (11.30am) at the farmers’ market in Leeland Road; drumming workshops, magic shows and kids’ cookery school at St James Church; making ceramics at OPEN Ealing’s stall in St James Ave; ‘make your own…’ stall in Canberra Road. Also football in Dean Gardens from 1-3pm and fun and activities in St John’s Church from 10.30am.

WEN Abundance selling locally made jams, chutneys and more in front of St James Church

Watch out for more including a St John’s Ambulance stand and if you like climbing stairs then you can get a spectacular view across west London from the top of the tower at St John’s Church in Mattock Lane – tours from 10.30am – 3.30pm.

Lots of free children’s activities at West Ealing Family Day on Saturday 22nd September

We’ve put together our best yet activities and entertainment for children at this year’s Family Day. So far confirmed:

Farmers’ Market in Leeland Road – Punch and Judy show from 11.30 – 12.30 plus fruit and vegetable printing and chalk street art

St James Avenue – OPEN Ealing stall for making ceramics – 10am – 4pm

St James Church – drumming workshops, magic shows and cookery lessons. Schedule so far:

11am Drumming workshop (40 mins)

11.45am Magic Show (40 mins)

12.30pm Drumming workshop (40 mins)

1.15pm Magic workshop (40 mins)

3pm Drumming performance (20 mins)

St James Church Garden 10.30am – 3pm Kids’ Cookery School – a chance for kids to make their own healthy meals.

Get ready for West Ealing Family Day on Saturday 22nd September

 

This year’s West Ealing Family Day is fast approaching. This year we have more activities for children including:

  • drumming workshops and magic shows in St James Church
  • painting and other children’s activities in the famers’ market in Leeland Road
  • arts activities for children with OPEN Ealing in St James Avenue
  • football in Dean Gardens

We’ll again have hot food and live music in Melbourne Avenue, a craft market in St James Avenue and, for the first time, specialist food stalls and community information stalls in Canberra Road alongside Sainsbury’s. Watch out too for our Abundance stall and apple juice pressing in front of St James Church.

Face painting for kids, natural skin care products, free teas and coffees and more at this Saturday’s West Ealing Craft Market

Alongside the 16 craft stalls selling locally made goods, St James’ Church is offering free teas and coffees at this Saturday’s craft market in St James Avenue ( by entrance to Sainsbury’s car park). The market runs from 10am – 3pm and you can buy a selection of jewellery, home-baked cakes, natural skin care products including soaps, bath salts, body butters, hand creams, as well as original drawings and paintings, handmade beaded bracelets and there’s also face painting for kids.

Air ambulance in Dean Gardens – incident in Chapel Road

I’ve just walked back from OPEN Ealing and passed police cars and ambulances all over the place. Then I saw an air ambulance in Dean Gardens. It looks to me as if an incident took place in Chapel Road, location of a major fire last year, and someone was taken by road ambulance to the air ambulance which had landed in Dean Gardens. More information when we have it… think I’ve just heard the air ambulance fly over our house.

UPDATE – Saturday from Ealing Today website

Seems a man in his 30s was attacked in Chapel Road and left in a serious condition and then airlifted to hospital in east London.

w7emporium – new delicatessen to open in Hanwell on Saturday

A while back I mentioned I’d joined the monthly cheese subscription from Claire Rosser at w7emporium and I’m delighted to say she is now opening her delicatessen on Saturday. It’s in Boston Road in Hanwell on the right hand side almost opposite Wickes (post code is W7 3TR). It opens at 11am and I’m definitely going along, not least because I’m going to collect my next monthly selection of cheeses.  Claire has worked fantasically hard to get this venture up and running and I wish her success and I hope lots of people can drop in and see and taste what’s on offer.

OPEN Ealing Family Fundraising Day – Activities for children and young people

 

Saturday 21st July

11am – 3pm

Drop in anytime, no booking required.

Minimum donation to access all activities: £5

Free for parents or guardians

Drop in anytime from 11am to 3pm and join us for a series of activities for kids and the rest of the family. We’ll have:

  • Drawing activities
  • Bead work
  • Printmaking
  • Dance

We will also have a book sale to raise additional funds for OPEN Ealing with a share of the proceeds going to the local Ealing group of Cancer Research UK.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. Refreshments will be available on a donation basis.

A night of poetry, jokes and near death at OPEN Ealing on Wednesday evening

In 2010, for his thirtieth birthday Richard Tyrone Jones, the healthy, gym-going ‘Ringmaster of Spoken Word’ (ThreeWeeks) got a rather unexpected present. Heart failure.

Having battled back from the brink of death to (almost) full-health, armed with a pen and a pacemaker, he has now written a show about his experiences, which he describes as ‘a unique prescription of cardiomyopoetry, animation and anecdosage.’

Richard will expand on the lurid details of his near-near death from dilated cardiomyopathy (heart failure), atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat) and atrial thrombosis (blood clot in the heart), his convoluted convalescence and living everyday life with the condition that will almost certainly kill him. Here is truly a show for anyone who ever had a heart. Or failure. Many Fringe acts consider their show to be a matter of life and death. This one literally is.

What had caused this triple-decker of misery? And can being so dangerously ill actually improve your life?

Richard Tyrone Jones is a poet, writer and founder of spoken word clubnight ‘Utter!’, celebrating its 10th birthday in 2013, and is also Director of Spoken Word for PBH’s Free Fringe.
